This is where the sun smiles

Dalmatia which stretches from Starigrad-Paklenica down to the southern point of Croatia is one of the most varied regions along the Adriatic Sea. Some of the conspicuous features of Dalmatia include pretty small towns influenced by Venetian elements, fjord like bays which are partly dominated by distinctive mountain ranges, small islands and crystal clear water. A further attractive feature of this region is the fact that one is able to enjoy an affordable vacation as restaurants are cheaper and general living costs are much lower than in Central and Northern Europe. All this make Dalmatia the perfect region for a holiday home vacation in the summer.

Croatia’s currency is the Kuna (1€ = 7.2 Kuna) as though one is also able to pay with Euros in many restaurants. Presently atraveo has more than 17,000 holiday apartments and houses in Croatia and specifically around 6,500 properties in Dalmatia. Despite the persistent rumours that the accommodations in Croatia are furnished sparingly one can say that things have improved significantly in the last years. With this blog we intend to introduce the most sought after travel destinations in North and South Dalmatia.

Enchanting panoramic views around the lively Zadar

The region Zadar is renowned for its diverse landscape. Here one can find lagoon like beaches, the highest cliffs of the Adriatic Sea, the caves Cerovačke pećine and the largest natural sea in Croatia Vransko jezero. The most ideal resort in the region of Zadar is Biograd na Moru where you can find a wide selection of holiday apartments and houses. For island enthusiasts one can recommend Dugi Otok where there are secluded beaches and one is able to enjoy delightful views from the panorama road. Alternatively the olive island Ugljan can be suggested as a place for a lovely stay. The car bridge towards the south of Ugljan provides a connection to the neighbouring island of Pašman.

The dominant and largest town of this region is Zadar which like no other Adriatic seaport radiates Italian flair. The historical centre is beautifully situated on a peninsula and can be toured within half a day. Zadar is not only famous for being a tourist attraction but is also the most important economic centre of North Dalmatia and a transport nodal point. From here the majority of the crossings are made to the more than 200 offshore islands and Italy. Whilst visiting this region you may want to try out the Maraschino liquor which is a specialty made with morello cherries. This delicacy will surely taste even nicer on the terrace of this holiday house for four people.

Natural spectacle Krka Waterfalls

Overwhelming natural spectacle

An absolute highlight of the region Šibenik-Knin is the famous Krka Waterfalls that are revered beyond the Croatian borders. On the way to the valley the Krka spectacularly shoots over countless small and large cascades. Via a bus shuttle you are brought to the most beautiful places in the national park and can experience this wonderful forest and water landscape. Tip: Don’t forget your swimming stuff as in some of the water areas it is permitted to bathe and swim.

With Vodice,a popular tourist destination with holiday makers and Primošten which is well known for its exposed location and pretty old centre there are two enticing resorts close to Šibenik.

The cultural highlight of Dalmatia

Split is the largest city in Dalmatia and is worth a visit for many reasons. Start at the Diocletian's Palace and then take a stroll through the historical centre or go to the Marjan hill where one has a lovely view. The perfect way to bring the trip to an end is sipping a cocktail or having a sundae somewhere along the palm tree lined water front. Tip: The banana split tastes twice as good here.

The majority of towns in Dalmatia have still a historical centre but none are as impressive as that of Trogir. In the narrow streets you come across churches, palaces, light backyards and small shops. Sometime later you will end up at the water front which perfectly rounds off the beauty of this place. Around Trogir there is a wide selection of properties like this holiday apartment for six people directly at the beach. If one drives along the coastal road of Split in southern direction then one ends up in Omiš which has a very unique location. Many of the local residents built their houses along the steep chalk cliffs that form the exit from the canyon.

Where the sun shines longer

Zlatni rat – given the name „Golden Horn“ because of its distinctive form – is located on the island of Brač , which is regarded as the most attractive and well known beach of Croatia. Next to its outward form Zlatni rat also impresses with its fine sandy beach which is quite rare for Croatia. Equally famous is Marmor von Brač which is part of the building fabric of the White House in Washington, Reichstagsgebäudes in Berlin as well as the parliament in Vienna. Due to the pleasant climate on Brač fruits such as kiwis and tangerines grow here.

The island of Hvar has a good chance to be declared as the sunniest travel destination along in the Adriatic with nearly 3,000 hours of sun. If that itself was not enough reason to choose a holiday home on this island the town of Hvar also is the loveliest island town of Dalmatia. You can enjoy the imposing view over this Mediterranean coastal resort from the fortress Spanjola or alternatively from the sea.

Bathing pleasure along the Makarska Riviera

Holiday makers adore the coastal strip between Brela and Gradac because of its picturesque beaches and Mediterranean vegetation which are dominated by precipices of the Biokovo Mountains: The Makarska Riviera. North of the of the resort of Makarska which carries the same name as the region one can find Baška Voda which is a much visited place and Brela often referred to the pearl of the Dalmatian Riviera with its white shingle beach. Both resorts are a bit quieter and not that full as Makarska is. For this reason it is recommended to choose a holiday property here. This holiday apartment with sea view and up to four people in Brela costs between 700 and 800 Euros.

Bathing fun for all

Grande Finale: Dubrovnik and Korčula

It is very much worth making the long trip down to South Dalmatia in order to visit the King along the Adriatic Sea Dubrovnik. Next to its unmistakable Mediterranean flair the fortress complexes, old port and Boulevard Stradun lined with marble are further reasons to visit this delightful place. Tip: The entire of Dubrovnik is linked up to WLAN.

The island of Korčula can be easily reached by a car ferry from Dubrovnik. First point of call is the correspondent town of Korčula where according to a legend the famous explorer of Asia Marco Polo was born. In Croatia beaches are to be regarded as a trump card and Korčula can be proud that it can offer its guests around Lumbarda several of them. We are also quite happy that we can offer you this holiday apartment for four people located in close proximity.

Back on the mainland it is also worthwhile to visit the small town of Cavtat. It is revered for its spectacular location on a headland and cheerful atmosphere. A few kilometres further Molunat is the last holiday resort in Croatia. Here you are able to find atraveo’s most southern holiday property in Croatia which is a holiday house for up to five people.
